Rebekah Jacques, MD, MHSc, FRCPC (AP & FP)
Rebekah Jacques, Hons. BSc., MHSc (Bioethics), MD, FRCPC (AP & FP), a citizen of the Métis Nation, is a forensic pathologist at the London Health Sciences Centre in Ontario, Canada, and an Assistant Professor at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University. She teaches on topics including trauma, postmortem examinations, and the role of pathologists as expert witnesses, and is the editor of the textbook Forensic Pathology: Death Investigation Bioethics and Other Medicolegal Principles.
Throughout her career, Rebekah has focused on the ethical dimensions of how legal and medical investigations engage with Indigenous peoples, including how information about cause of death can be more respectfully and effectively shared to support healing. She was awarded the People’s Choice Award at the Canadian Bioethics Society Conference and the Martin McKneally Capstone Project Award during her MHSc training, and is also a recipient of the CAP-ACP Green Award in recognition of leadership in environmental sustainability within pathology.
Rebekah has served on national advisory and policy bodies, including the Tri-Agencies Reference Group for the Appropriate Review of Indigenous Research, and served on the National Advisory Committee on Residential School Missing Children and Unmarked Burials. Her work has contributed to the creation of hundreds of waived post-secondary tuition fees and strengthened privacy rights for former youth in foster care across Canada.
